Imagine you just had your fingernails done or you just applied a fresh brand new trendy nail polish you been dying to wear. Then it happens you hit your freshly polished nails on something and now have a very unsightly smudge. What do you do?

Well the best thing to do is to prevent it from happening in the first place. So what can you do to prevent smudging your nails? Read on

Here are a few tips to help you from smudging your nails again.

If you are paying someone else to do your nails, get out your keys, payment choice and if bought a coat with you, put it on. This way you have no reason to smudge your nails digging in your purse.

Best number one tip is to own the nail polish of your choice so if you do smudge them by accident getting into your car and driving home you can fix the smudge at home.

As hard as it maybe to wait at least 5 minutes with your nails in the nail dryer before leaving the nail salon. That will at least give your nails a chance to set before you go.

Your nails will dry faster if you when you polish your own nails if you wait at least 2 to 3 minutes between coats. That gives the first coat of nail polish applied a chance to set.

Adorning one's body is a very old concept. The neck is an obvious place to hang something interesting from; it stays on easily and is positioned in a place where it will be seen by anyone approaching. I expect both males and females wore some type of necklace.

The animals killed for their flesh were thoroughly utilized. The fur was warm and put to use both as blankets and shelter. The bones made wonderful decorative pendants. They were easily drilled and perhaps carved as well.

Before jewelry was favored for beauty and status it must have been more important in a religious sense. And by that I mean as a talisman or just something to ward off evil. As artists gained skill they began to carve wood or bones into more creative shapes.

And then, of course, the utilization of silver and gold allowed even more detailed as well as valuable jewelry. Wouldn't it be wonderful to go back in time and see how the very first pendant using casting methods was created? Was it a "happy accident" or the result of a planned and postulated series of steps? I would imagine it was a little of both.

When I think about these things, it makes me feel connected to my brothers and sisters in the past. Their lives were so different, yet the urge to create something of personal beauty has persisted through the millennia.

And even more interesting is that the same basic forms that were worn decoratively then are worn today. Earrings, necklace pendants and bracelets have adorned our species for thousands and perhaps over a million years. Fashion and art are intertwined. And art is, after all, just another form of communication.

There are many luxury watch brands on the market today, take a look at the likes of Blancpain, F.P Journe and Franck Muller for some of the highest quality timepieces available.

One of the most famous names on the planet that most people recognize is Rolex. Many would question, however, that these would be the best watches to buy for your money. The Green bezel and Maxi dial are the main distinctive features of this new design approach.

Many Rolex fans, including myself, rushed to get this attractive timepiece as soon as it appeared, mainly because a Rolex watch is one of the most reliable watches in the world. However, the Rolex Submariner 50th Anniversary watches have more than precision and reliability to offer. The green bezel makes them look both stylish and individual. That final touch of green is a quite refreshing element meant to improve the classical appearance of the well-known Submariner. The redesigned dial with more prominent indicators makes one think of the Yacht-Master which is probably the source of inspiration for the Maxi dial of the Rolex Submariner 50th Anniversary watches.

As always, a lot of consideration is put into their design. With the Rolex Submariner 50th Anniversary watches, the hour markers became larger and the minute hand slightly wider. Having more luminescent paint on, these watches are much more visible, especially in the dark. Thus, their initial diving purpose has successfully been enhanced by following the new Maxi dial idea.

The Submariner is undoubtedly a very elegant watch and the features that have been added to the Rolex Submariner 50th Anniversary watches make this line one of the most colorful options for the modern man. It also creeps ahead of watches made by the likes of Panerai and IWC due to the history and the fact that they stand out from the standard Submariners in their appearance.

Early time measurement devices were pretty crude and inaccurate, yet provided a method of keeping track of time. Can you imagine today's society existing without an accurate method to tell time? Estimates for first instruments used to tell time date back as much as 5,000 to 6,000 years ago. The first known clocks were the sundial and the water clock. The sundial shows the position of the sun from the shadow cast by the center protrusion known as a gnomon. Water clocks work by measuring waterflow from the containing vessel. Later water clocks also used gears to improve their accuracy. This led to later development of weight-driven clocks sometime during the 13th century. These clocks were large and used on church towers and government buildings.

By the 16th century, advancements had been made by the use of springs instead of weights, allowing for the development of smaller clocks with greater accuracy including portable clocks or watches. Because they were still larger and bulkier than watches we know today, these watches were worn on chains around the neck. They were only owned by the wealthy and symbolized great status for the owner. It was during the 17th century that the first pocket watch was introduced marking the beginning of timepieces for all individuals and were the most often used form of portable clocks from the 16th century until the first wristwatches surpassed their popularity after World War I.

The era of the pocket watch brought great strides in the precision of the timepieces as well as new features. The portable watches worn around the neck were square and boxy. Soon after the introduction of the pocket watch, artisans began softening the look by using slimmer cases and rounding the corners. Ornate designs were engraved on the cases, jewels were used for decoration, and the bearings in the mechanism were diamonds. Pocket watches then and now were often manufactured with a hinged lid to protect the face of the watch. A hinged lid case on a pocket watch is known as a "hunter case". A chain, also called a fob, that attaches to the waistcoat, pants belt loop or jacket lapel is used to secure the watch.

In later years, a second-hand was added and the 19th century brought more manufacturers as the quality and precision continued to improve. During the second half of the 19th century, the explosion in the railroad industry demanded the need for accurate timepieces for safety. In 1887 the American Railroad Association met to define the requirements for railroad watches. Unfortunately, it took a disastrous train wreck in 1891 for these requirements to become widely accepted. However, it was not until 1893 that a set of stringent standards for railroad pocket watches was actually adopted. Pocket watches meeting these standards were known as "railroad-grade pocket watches".

Although their popularity has waned in recent history, pocket watches are still today, coveted heirlooms passed from fathers to sons and daughters and on to to grandsons and granddaughters. Antique vintage pocket watches are sought after by collectors all over the world.

This option is not necessary for small stains or occasional cleaning however. You can use a common leather cleaner like saddle soap for this. You can also use a leather polish in between cleanings to keep your garment looking like new. It is safe to wipe down smooth leathers with a damp cloth to remove light dust. However, never expose your leather garment to extreme wetness or put it in a washing machine.

If your leather lingerie or clothing does get wet, allow it to air dry and do not expose it to heat. Once it dries, applying some type of leather conditioner is recommended to ensure it stays supple. If you are concerned and know your leather clothing will likely get wet, you can apply a water repellent as a preventative measure.

How to Care for Your Leather Clothing

Summer Fashion 2008

Well we're well in to Spring and headed for Summer despite the thermometer lately where I live. So it's time to get serious about what we're going to wear. Are hemlines going to point the way to the economy this year? Things are looking bleaker by the minute on the economic front but the hemlines are really giving little indication as to where we are headed.

Minis are still very much in evidence which is fine by me. Some of the clothes I've looked at are interesting like the boho stuff around and then some are absolutely stunning like some of the Helmut Langs Sunner's, Rachel Roy's and Jenni Kayne's I've spotted.

Summer means beach to me and pool parties and racy swim gear and great pants and shorts. Speaking of which, the move by the denim labels to white is a relief for summer weather.There are Summer weddings galore and graduations and then there are vacations and travel. Of course the dollar and gas prices limit the latter pretty severely but it's not going to stop me enjoying the summer, finding some great clothes and getting a heavenly tan to go with some very sexy party numbers.

The beach and pool arena seem a little static. I've seen little to excite me in the swimwear lines but then maybe I've not looked in the right places and I'll have to try to rectify that. Cover-ups and wraps and skirts to pop on over the bikini or monokini are a little better than the suits themselves. My suits from last year are all trash anyway so I'll have to do something about that anyway.

My nephew's graduation from Annapolis is close by so I'll need something scrumptious for that lovely event. Think we'll go down and spend a week in Maryland just prior.

I probably am going to the Preakness and up to Saratoga too so need more good looking stuff for those. Then there's a couple of Garden Parties that are very dressy and several that are informal and fun too. I'll need an array for them.

I know we'll spend time at the beach house and must get lots of casual stuff for down there. Swimsuits, pants, shorts, summer frocks.

Heavens, I'm forgetting shoes as well. And there are some really exciting high heeled evening sandals to acquire for the parties and weddings. I feel that shoes are really exciting right now, don't you?

So I guess I'm going to be busy! Want to start this week? Let's begin with Nordstrom's in Providence Place. I'll call you later in the week to set it up. Ciao!

Fashion is an important factor to join your way of dressing up, you always want to have the latest trends and innovations. The clothes you wear, is highly influenced by the seasons, may them be fall-winter or spring-summer. It won't be the same fabric for summer as it may be for winter. The fabric choice determines how comfortable you will feel. These may be cool fabrics for summer, warmer ones for winter and others like natural fabrics, since some people can be allergic to synthetic fabric in some textiles. Some natural fabrics are Hemp, Ramie and Jute, similar to Linen but go through a different plant process.

In spring-summer, fabrics like cotton, eyelet, tropical wool and linen are the most commonly used for spring dresses as well as shorts or beach wear, these types of fabric soak sweat and allow the air to flow in the clothes for a fresher feeling on hot days. Meanwhile for Fall-Winter fashion, obviously the fabrics are thicker to block the air from the clothes and maintain the skin in a warm temperature, these include, wool, leather, tweed and different types of knits that beat cold and hard winds.

One fabric that never goes out of style and you can wear in any season is the jean. You just have to be aware of the cut, depending on the new trends and tendencies. Jean fabric is not only used in pants anymore, there are also dresses, jumpers, shirts and even handbags. Poplin is also a popular choice for shirts in any occasion; wear a classic white poplin shirt with your summer shorts, as well as underneath your wool coat in winter.

Cotton is the principal, most popular fiber used in the world, so cool, breathable and comfortable we may even ask ourselves, what would we do without cotton? When I recently advised a client to study a few fashion magazines to glean some ideas for the upcoming season, she flatly refused.

"I HATE those things!" she told me vehemently. "Skinny girls, expensive clothes - what does that have to do with my life? Nothing!"

Now since this isn't the first time I've heard this argument, I realized that she was missing the point of the exercise - much like the women who tell me that VOGUE or W are "their bibles." In this corner, we have someone who's way too caught up in her own reality; in the other, we have someone who's much too caught up in someone else's. Let's all move a bit more to the center and learn how to read these things properly, shall we? We'll all dress a lot better for it.

Let's start with a little dissection first, then move on to the "how to" part of the lesson.

THE MODELS

Overall, fashion magazines tend to show young, thin, attractive people in their pages for the exact same reason that grocers tend to polish their apples and car dealers tend to have you test drive clean cars: because it sells more. It's as simple as that. Fashion Marketing 101. Whether you agree with it or not is beside the point; it works -- VERY well.

So well, in fact, that somewhere along the line, many women went from trying to determine whether the clothing being shown would work well on their bodies to bemoaning the fact that their bodies don't look like the mannequins. Let me let you in on a secret: those girls don't look like that every day, either. They have an army of people to get the hair, makeup, clothes, and lighting just right. If that doesn't work, they airbrush the photos to get the right look. And if the model packs on a few pounds or starts to show signs of ageing, she's replaced. Nothing like being a "has been" by the age of 30, eh?

What a shame that so many teenage girls and women have allowed the slick marketing to muddle their thinking and impact their self esteem. Don't be one of them. Look at the clothes and the mood that the picture evokes; don't compare yourselves to the mannequins.

THE SETTINGS

In fashion magazines, you'll often see a beautiful girl in gorgeous clothes in an enviable setting surrounded by handsome men. If only, right? Well, that's part of the marketing. It's called projecting, and if you've ever envisioned yourself swapping places with the gal in the picture, the marketers have done their job. It's a set up. A complete fabrication. A ruse. Remember that the next time you see a shot that makes you want to rush right out and buy the clothes you see so you can be just like the girl in the picture.

THE ADS

Ever wonder why you see so many high end designers advertising in fashion magazines and why the fashion magazines, in turn, show so many of those same designers in their editorial photo spreads? It's no coincidence. Those one-page ads are VERY expensive, often costing tens of thousands (or more), depending on the magazine's circulation. So the fashion houses don't spend all their advertising dollars in one place. Oh, no.

They'll put a portion of their budget into ads, a portion into lending clothes to magazines for photo shoots, and a portion into creating clothes for celebrities for red carpet and other media events. That way, they spread the name recognition around. It's clever - and expensive. But it works. If you love labels and see a look you like in a couple of fashion magazines and on a favorite celebrity, wouldn't you be more inclined to buy it if you had the money? Many are. A look through the society pages will tell you as much.

THE LESSON

So now that we've addressed the models, ads, and editorial spreads, here's what you SHOULD be looking for when you read a fashion magazine (and yes, it's okay to rip out pages and put them in a file for future reference - but only if you own the magazine!):

1. The Trends

Fashion magazines will call them "must have" items, but look at trends skeptically to see whether they fit your body, clothing personality, and lifestyle. Don't worry about the price. If you find something you like and want to wear, look for an inexpensive version of the trend at your favorite discount or outlet store. Buy cheap, wear often, and discard when then trend is over.

2. The Updated Classics

Most women recognize that classic styles are a good value, and fashion magazines know this. So they'll show trendy new ways to wear classic styles and give you plenty of ideas in the process. All you have to do is take a moment to break it down to see how you can apply this to your own closet.

3. The Designers

If you have a "thing" for designer labels, high end fashion magazines (Vogue, W, Marie Claire, Town and Country) are a great place to learn about the different fashion house philosophies. Even if you can't afford those brand names, don't fret. If you find a look you really like, you'll probably be able to find it a little later in the season in a budget-friendly copy-cat version.

4. Styling Ideas

Styling refers to the way the clothing and accessories are presented in a picture. Look at how the clothes are layered, draped, or wrapped. Look at how the jewelry is worn. See what they did with the bag and shoes. Look at the hair and other accessories. If you see something you like, try creating a similar look with pieces from your own closet. You'll be surprised how you can breathe new life into your old standbys just by wearing them a different way.

5. Hair and Makeup

Are you in a hair and makeup rut? Peruse a few fashion magazines to see what's hot for the season. Not only will you glean some new looks, you may discover that a new 'do may be all you need to look "au currant" this year.

Fashion magazines are a great way to learn all about what's happening in fashion AS LONG AS you remember that they're created to sell clothes and accessories. Forget about the models and the price tags and focus instead on the clothes, trends, and styling ideas that might work for you. Then copy or adapt them to your own budget and lifestyle. Before you know it, you may look like you stepped out of a fashion magazine - whatever your age, shape, size, or budget.

Why should you be concerned of the way you look?

There are plenty of reasons! Dressing the part plays a major role in many aspects of your life. Think about your work, your romantic life and your day to day activities.

It's all about perception, I've seen many people get promoted simply due to the fact that they have always looked professional. Maybe looking professional didn't get them the job but at least it got them the interview! Most women also appreciate a man who knows how to dress, it makes them feel like their man is confident and accomplished. Perception is key in day to day activities and the way you dress has a huge impact on it.

1. Socks should match your pants. Easy as 1, 2, 3.

2. Belts should match your shoes. Not every one is color blind like you ;).

3. Never wear both a belt and suspenders. The combination makes you appear less confident - you big wuss.

4. Ties should reach your belt line. This is simply the rule. A short tie makes you look like a dufus.

5. Properly knotted ties have a "dimple" under the knot. Sort of like one of Mario Lopez's cheeks... Btw, Clips and tacks are out of date.

6. Your shoes should be clean, shined, repaired and appropriate for the occasion. If you are wearing a suit, wear lace-up shoes. Don't forget to keep shoetrees in your shoes when you're not wearing them.

7. Don't wear a short sleeve shirt in combination with a tie. Actually, never wear a short sleeve shirt period. People have the perception that short sleeve shirts are only worn by lower class people. You can wear one if you want to be a McDonald's manager, not if you want to exude a professional look.

8. The Button-Down collar dress shirt is simply not suitable for dressy formal wear nor with a double-breasted suit. Why? Well even though it's now a business classic during the day, it was originally a sport shirt worn by polo players.

9. Wear the right size pants ok? Pants are long enough if they have a slight break in the front. Pants should have enough length to cover up your socks, and your socks should be long enough to cover your shins even when you're legs are crossed. Pleats and cuffs both should be treated with respect. Pleats let you walk comfortably while looking professional and help a bigger man look great while cuffs will add weight to the bottoms of your pants sometimes giving them the perfect drape.

10. Socks with Sandals. Even if you live in Maine, don't do it - you'll look like a schmuck.

11. Chunky Shoes. Lose them, the Axel Rose era is over.

12. Backpacks. Alright, maybe this is just a minor mistake, but you're trying to climb the corporate ladder, not hike up mount everest.

13. Clashing or too many colors. Do you really want to look like a gay pride flag? Stick to complementary colors (those opposite from each other on the color wheel) or colors from the same pallet. You can find one on the web very easily by searching on google!

14. Ponytails. You're not the rock star of your office. Spend the 20$ for a haircut, you can afford it.

15. Too much jewelry. Put the jewelry away P. Diddy or should we call you Puff Daddy? If you want to wear jewelry, opt for a classy pair of designer cufflinks.

16. Comb-overs. These shout insecurity. Shave it, lose it or cover it.

These days, the vast majority of men and women consider a quick squirt of their favorite perfume or aftershave an intrinsic part of their morning ritual. You could argue that the criteria for the scent you wear each day should purely be based around the smell that you, yourself, find most pleasing; but the marketing of fragrances means that they are considered a key tool in alluring a partner and therefore at either a conscious or sub-conscious level we are all buying fragrances that we hope will please others too.

So, from this can we deduce that fragrances were developed to assist in our mating rituals? Actually no - the history of perfume actually has more spiritual roots, originally created for religious purposes to honor the gods. It is recorded that ancient civilizations dating as far back as 7000 years ago were using fragrance as part of their offerings to their countless deities. Fires were created, to which were added a fragrant 'pot pourri' of aromatic wood, incense, gum resins, herbs and spices and people walked through the smoke to wear the perfume. In fact, the word perfume stems from the Latin term per fumum, meaning "through smoke".

It was from these origins that the concept of perfume arose, with techniques for extracting and preserving fragrances through boiling, pressing, drying, distillation and even blending with fats practiced throughout the ancient world. However it was not until Roman monks discovered the distillation of alcohol that perfume production, in the true sense of the word, became possible.

The multi-million pound industry that we know today perhaps began its journey in earnest in the 18th century, with the establishment of a number of perfume houses. Techniques were improved and the "juices" as perfumers called their products became more sophisticated, and throughout the ages women have loved perfume including many famous women of our times.

At one time fragrance was a luxury for royalty; in 800BC, The Queen of Sheba used perfume to seduce King Solomon. Catherine de Medici - future wife of Henry II - bought her own perfumer with her as part of her entourage when she came to Britain, and she even established a perfume laboratory in Provence! Queen Elizabeth I was famous for her love of perfume; her clothes, gloves and shoes were steeped in the fragrance from damask roses and even the rooms of her palaces were sprinkled with scent.

Perhaps these historical women were the forerunners of today's celebrities whose names are now closely associated with fragrance - albeit for more commercial reasons! Kylie, J Lo, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sean Paul and even Jade Goody have all placed their monikers on a bottle of scent! In fact, it could be argued that in today's culture there are some who see celebrity as an almost 'god-like' status, so perhaps we haven't come that far from the religious roots of perfume all those thousands of years ago.

After collating the feedback received the majority asked for:-

Reasonable priced shoes without searching all day to compare prices

Quality - how to recognize poor quality shoes

HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT SIZE AND WIDTH

Know your shoe size and always choose a pair in your true size. The size you usually wear.

Most online shoe stores offer half sizes.

Unless the store is in Great Britain or Australia, most online shoe stores list their shoes in US sizes.

Check your country shoe size. For instance I live in England and my size is UK 7. In US this would be a size 9.5 and European size 40.

Not all online shoe stores offer narrow or wide width shoes.

If you require a narrow or wide width shoe try to choose stores that provide these.

It would be disappointing to go shoe shopping and find a pair of shoes you love only to discover the store only offers standard widths.

HOW TO FIND DISCOUNT OR INEXPENSIVE DESIGNER SHOES

The beauty of online shoe shopping is that the majority of the top stores offer up to and more than 100 designer branded shoes.

It is unrealistic to expect to get yourself a pair of Gucci shoes and only pay $30 for them.

However, there are shoe stores that offer such designer names at far lower prices than you would expect to pay at a boutique or mall store.

There are sites that have unique partnerships with designer houses and only offer end of season or discounted items.

Be very wary of doing random searches for designer shoes online.

The increase in fake or replica items is on the increase.

Without a high level of ambition and the necessary commitment to achieve that ambition you may struggle. You have to be prepared to work hard yet remain open to learning. Displaying high levels of flexibility and using criticism from others in a positive way will allow you to adapt in what is an ever-changing environment.

Effective communication skills are a must. If you can't explain, listen, negotiate or delegate you'll struggle. Likewise organizational skills - if you can't plan and co-ordinate you simply won't finish jobs on time. Part of this comes from being able to make quick decisions and accepting responsibility for those decisions.

If you want to be a fashion designer then you need to accept the fact that you'll also be running a business. That means being able to spot opportunities as well as carrying out the more mundane tasks that are part and parcel of running a business. You'll need to be able to show leadership and be prepared to take a few risks if you want to achieve real success.

On a more artistic level you'll need to be imaginative and creative to generate new ideas. Without a genuine ability to visualize, draw and paint in two dimensions you won't be able to deliver innovation which is the energizing force of fashion design. The same can be said for color sense and the many practical skills that go into making a fashion designer.

To be a fashion designer means being prepared to work as part of a team. You'll need to enjoy group activities and recognize you're only part of a bigger picture that draws from the input of many players. This calls for a friendly, calm temperament, patience, humour and at times a little bit of humility.

The one personal quality that pulls all of this together is having a real passion for fashion - without this the other skills and personal qualities become undermined and you'll find it difficult to be a fashion designer.

Visiting a hair salon can be a very scary and daunting task for some people girls and boys, women and men. It may be because they’ve had a scary experience in the past maybe the hairdresser cut the hair wrong, the hairdresser didn’t do what the client told them too, wrong colour or even an allergic reaction to the bleach or colour.

Whatever your reasons I have 10 steps in which I hope will help you get over your phobia of visiting a hair salon:

1. Only go to reputable salons – a recommendation by a friend or family member is always a good start

2. If you’re having colour on your hair insist on a skin test – a skin test is when a small amount of bleach or colorant is placed on your skin to see if you have a reaction, a reaction can be itching, blistering and or redness. A skin test is done at least a week before any hair appointment.

3. Tell the hairdresser exactly what style you want – if you have an idea what you want your hair to look like and have a picture take it to the hairdressers with you this will not only put your mind at rest but will help the hairdresser too.

4. Tell the hairdresser what you don’t want – if you don’t like one particular style tell the hairdresser, if you go into a hairdressers and say do anything you feel would look good but you hate one particular style, make sure u tell them.

5. If you want 1 or 2 inches off your hair and that’s all tell them – if you’ve gone to the hairdressers just to have an inch or tow off your hair tell the hairdresser that’s all you want doing. Don’t let the hairdresser sway your decision.

6. Choose a hairdresser you get on with – in a hair salon there’s always more than one stylist so choose one you like and can get on with, it will then be easier for you to talk to them telling them what you specifically want from your hair.

7. If your really nervous book with senior stylist – senior stylists in a hair salon are stylists with more experience. They will cost more money but will listen to your every need and make sure your happy with your cut and or colour.

8. Only want your hair done but bombarded with extras available – most hair salons now offer not only hair services but nail treatments, tanning, make-up services etc. if you don’t want any of these offered to you just make it clear in a nice manner you’ve come to have your hair done that’s all thank you.

9. Sacred what the colour will look like – if you want to change your hair colour, the best way is to start with 1 or 2 shades either lighter or darker of your normal hair colour. Don’t go from blonde to dark brown or dark brown to bright blonde, you need to do it gradually.

10. Go for a consultation before you book – if your still unsure why not book a consultation with the hairdresser of your choice and tell them exactly how you feel, if you’re scared explain why. They will then give you advice on what styles and colours would suit you, then you can give it a think before your actual appointment.

It’s that time of year when we pack up our bags and head to the beach for the day to enjoy those warm sunrays and the refreshing sound of the lapping water.

So what constitutes a good beach wardrobe. Well there are certain essentials that none of us forget. On goes the swimsuit and bathing suit cover, flip flops on our feet. Beach bag has been packed with the essentials – sunglasses, floppy hat, towel and a good book. Great – got the basics covered but what about the rest.

So if we are so prepared for a day at the beach, why is it by the time we get home we look pretty worn. Here are some helpful tips to make your day at the beach fun and keep you looking fashion fresh all day and all the way home.

First before you leave home, if you’ve got long hair pull it into a high pony tail or fun knot. Use some funky hair accessories that will stay in place when you’re swimming. Try a fun colored bobble or some firm fastening clips in bright summer colors. If you pull your hair up your neck will stay cool and you’ll look fresh all day with your neat hairdo.....

Second slather yourself in sunscreen before leaving the house, then toss the sunscreen in your bag so you can reapply after a swim or every few hours. A sunburn is not only unhealthy and painful, it’s unattractive, so don’t let yourself turn into the lobster of the day. Your sunscreen should be a SPF of 15. It doesn’t hurt to use a strong SPF on your face or your entire body if you burn easily.

Your beach bag should be large enough to hold your supplies for the day. Why not get something fun and fashionable to keep you looking fashion fresh. Make sure you’ve got all the daily essentials in your bag – sunglasses, sunscreen, a good book, a floppy hat, some lip gloss, and any other makeup touch ups you’ll want. If you plan to wear eye makeup make sure it’s waterproof. Stay away from heavy foundations. If you must apply something use a bronzer moisturizer. It’s also a good idea to bring lip balm with an SPF15 to protect your lips. It never hurts to put some moisturizer in the bag. Include a snack and plenty of fluids. It’s important not to get dehydrated.

Okay great we’ve got the basics covered now what about the wardrobe basics? If you’re planning to wear a swimsuit it’s usually easiest to put it on at home, that way you’re not chasing down change rooms. So great – first on goes the swimsuit. Now what to wear for a cover? Well you’ve got plenty of choices. A tank top and shorts, tank and skort, or a nice light cotton dress all work well over top. Choose something that’s easy to put on and take off, and choose fabrics that breathe to keep you cool. I also suggest including a long sleeved cotton blouse just incase you start to burn you can protect your shoulders and arms.

If you’re planning on heading out later in the day without returning home you might want to toss a pair of jeans or long skirt into your bag. If your outing is going to extend into the evening you’ll want to include a sweater for the cooler evening air. If you’re worried about your evening wear getting sandy or wet at the beach, then place them in a separate bag and leave them in the trunk of your car. That way you are guaranteed they’ll remain fresh.

My favorite beach look is this. And what’s perfect is it keeps me looking fashion fresh throughout the day and takes me right into the evening. First I like a swimsuit that’s got lots of support and is bright and cheerful. I throw a fitted tank on top and throw on a loose flouncy long skirt. The long skirt serves me through the evening and also works great to cover up if I’m starting to burn. I choose a lightweight material in a darker color with a pattern that accents the colors in my swimsuit. Flip flops are my footwear. Depending on where I’m heading after the beach I choose either a basic pair or one of my funky pair with rhinestones or crystals. Easy to walk in, feet breath, and terrific for an evening out. I keep a fitted light weight sweater in my car, and take a long sleeved cotton blouse down to the beach. I usually choose a long sleeved and long length blouse because it’s versatile. I can knot it to create a short blouse, wear it long as a beach cover, and put it on if I start to burn on my upper body. I usually choose white or a soft pastel depending on my other colors. I like white because it’s cool to wear and refreshing to look at. Every year I buy a fun new beach tote that’s big enough for the beach but not too big as to take it with me for an evening out. I like a fun bag that’s full of character.

Since I always feel naked without my jewelry I wear fashion jewelry to the beach. That way should I loose something I won’t be out a lot of money and I won’t feel so bad. I like to keep the earrings simple and elegant. I may or may not wear a necklace. Often I’ll toss a funky wood necklace in the bag to add to the evening outfit. I like to wear a couple of fashion rings just to add the finishing touches. Now if you’re fussy about tan lines you’ll probably want to forgo the rings. I toss my watch in the bottom of my bag so I can put it on later.

That’s it – simple is the key. Keep your beach wardrobe choices simple but fashionable. Think ahead so you can go from beach to an evening out without hassle. Remember to always make your fashion statement!

The essence of sun protective swimwear is to reflect as much as possible, the dangerous ultra violet rays from the sun as much as possible. This means, shiny, silky or reflective clothing are the best.

Another technique is to use tightly woven micro fiber containing enhanced titanium dioxide which diffuses ultra violet light and CoolMax mesh to ensure ventilation and moisture management.

There are several types of sun protective swimwear available. There are some for babies, some for men and some for women. Between these we have ordinary and high end designer swimwear. Although all of them have the protection against the sun, there are vast differences in quality of fabric, design and appearance.

There are some sun protective swimwear that cover the entire body and some that are just top wear, shorts or pants.

With the high end fashion, you can have two, three and even sometimes four piece sun protective swimwear with a hat or sunglasses to match.

Of increasing popularity are men's sun protective swimwear comprising of a shirt, shorts and matching glasses. These products are both in the regular version and high end fashion.

Before we get on to why we need sun protective swimwear , it may be helpful to look at ultra violet rays. Ultraviolet rays (UV) or radiation is the invisible rays that are part of the energy that comes from the sun. UV radiation can damage the skin, cause melanoma and other types of skin cancer. There are two types of UV rays - there is the UVA which causes ordinary sun burn and the UVB which penetrate deeper into the skin to cause melanoma and other types of skin cancer.

Physiologically, overexposure to UV radiation can disturb the body's immune system and the skin's natural defenses.

Sun protective swimwear offers you a kind of filtering against these harmful rays. People most susceptible to these rays are those with light clothing and in areas where there is no overhead protection like the beach. Sun protective swimwear is also needed during summer when the sun shines a lot and consequently emits more ultra violet rays.

If you are interested in the stats,

• 1.3 million New cases of skin cancer are diagnosed each year.
• One in five Americans will contract skin cancer.
• Malignant melanoma, the worst form of skin cancer, has increased 1,800% since 1930

It is likely that many patients can save themselves the discomfort of these illnesses by putting on some sun protective swimwear.

You need to exercise a lot of discretion in buying protective swimwear.

Sun protective swimwear is categorized per UPF rating. UPF is the amount of radiation that can pass through the clothing. For example, a fabric with a UPF rating of 15 will permit one fifteenth of the UVR to pass through it and a UPF 20 fabric, one twentieth of the UVR to pass through it. What this mean is, depending your skin sensitivity, you will go for the clothing that suits your skin type, and of course, how long you will be exposed to the sun.

It is also important to consider weave type. Generally, the tighter the weave or knit, the better the protection against the sun.

The less the light that can pass through the clothing, the better. To test porosity, you can hold the sun protective swimwear against the sun and see how much light comes through.

Darker clothes should also be preferred against lighter clothes.

The price of a sun protective swimwear ranges from $49.95 upwards and there are several shops offering regular and high end fashion sun protective swimwear.

Sun protective swimwear can be pretty expensive and therefore need a lot of care to prolong their life. Here are a few tips on how to care for them:

Avoid oil-based suntan lotions which can stain the fabric and cause it to stretch. Stretching increases porosity and consequently permits more UV light to come through.

Soak clothes in vinegar to prevent fading which permits more light to come through the clothes.

Chlorine can interact with the sun protective swimwear and damage it. Try to soak your body wet before jumping into the pool to minimize the chemical reaction with the chlorine in the pool.

Enjoy the sun, tan as you want but be mindful of the danger of UV - put on your sun protective swimwear and save your beautiful skin.

It’s not really known how long tattooing has been around but it’s quite possibly as long as 12,000 years and we do know the ancient Egyptians practiced the art of tattooing.

In the last 100 years tattooing was common among criminals, motorcyclists and gang members but in the last 20 years this has drastically changed, so much so that approximately 50% of all tattoos are done on women. And who are these women? These are the soccer moms, and professional women, the women from ages of 18 to 40.

Tattooing has gone through its ups and downs over the centuries, and has even been banned many times in different cultures for periods of time. It appears though that tattooing will never really go away. During periods of a ban it seems to go underground until such time it is free to resurface.

Tattooing, (which is a Tahitian word meaning “to be marked”) in some cultures, has only the women being allowed to do the markings.

Today’s women are free to make their own choices in regards to tattooing. It is becoming more and more popular to have artistic designs placed just about anywhere on the body. You commonly see tattoos adorning an ankle, or husbands or boyfriends names on a forearm. Some women like to have a private tattoo for their spouse only.

I have received many queries by readers on how to match their shoes against their other mens clothing, like suit or pants. Actually it is not as difficult as they think it is since the choices of colors for men's shoes are quite limited. Unless you have a taste for extraordinary colors, otherwise there should not be much problem coordinating dress shoes.

Always remember that formality of dress shoes begins from the darkness of its color. For example, black is always the most formal color while light brown is the least formal. So you should match your shoes against your suits or pants based on the occasion. If you are attending a formal business dinner, then naturally black shoes are your ultimate choice rather than brown shoes.

Of late, there are more men wearing light brown or camel colored dress shoes against their dark colored suits or pants. These high contrast creates a very trendy style which I personally like. However, we should also note that this combination gives a more casual feel toward it.

What if the suit or pants are brown-based colors like olive or chocolate colors? Must we definitely wear it against brown shoes? Not necessarily, black shoes are just as fine.
